We asked all our members what advice they would give to new artists. Here's what Angela Erdy had to say:

"In your darkest moments, when everything feels futile, try to simply sit down and go through the motions of creating. Even without a clear direction, something meaningful may emerge—something that pulls you forward, grounds you, and gives you focus. Being an artist isn’t easy; it can be difficult, especially when the world itself feels heavy. Remember that the act of making can center you, even in the worst of times."

Happy Juneteenth! In honor of this pivotal day in American history, we invite you to take a moment to reflect on this painting, "Union Soldiers Stormin' Up the Hill," by Gallery 209 artist Napoleon Wilkerson.

Here's what he has to share:

"The painting holds deep significance in relation to Juneteenth because it honors the Black soldiers whose bravery helped secure the freedom of enslaved African Americans. More than 180,000 Black men served in the Union Army during the Civil War, risking their lives for liberation and citizenship."

Kenny Nobles is a landscape, wildlife and nature photographer who enjoys photographing the Georgia coast and coastal low-country. He retired in 2015 as a Captain with the Georgia Department of Public Safety, and since that time has devoted more time to photography. Kenny’s goal as a photographer is to make the viewer feel as if they can step into the scene of the photograph or to reach out and touch the wildlife. He hopes that while viewing his images you will feel a sense of peace, perhaps taking you back to a happy moment in your life and to see the beauty in the world around us.
