Today marks the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War when Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House, VA. General Ely Parker, a Tonawanda Seneca, drafted the surrender papers at the request of General Ulysses S. Grant. In the following image of General Grant and his staff, General Parker is pictured second from the right. http://iarchives.nysed.gov/dmsBlue/viewImageData.jsp?id=1093

Willow Mixed Media is producing a new historical documentary film "Tight Lines - Fishing the Esopus Watershed". We are seeking photos, film and video about fishing in the Esopus Creek, including its outlet to the Hudson at Saugerties. Any leads to materials is greatly appreciated. This is a photo of the Trinity church mens club picnic at George Campbell's farm, July 13th, 1939. My great grandfather, Jack Stalter, is in the back row, far left.
GREAT LECTURE TODAY ABOUT SHARPE, BUT "HOOKER" AS APPLIED TO GENERAL HOOKER OF THE UNION ARMY, APPEARS FLAWED SINCE THE TERM AS APPLIED TO PROSTITUTES MAY HAVE ORIGINATED IN 1845 LONG BEFORE THE CIVIL WAR. IN ANY EVENT THE SAUGERTIES LIBRARY EVENT WAS, AS USUAL, VERY INFORMATIVE, AND THE SPEAKER WAS EXCELLENT.
