Meaningful moments often happen around a table: we gather, we celebrate, we remember and art has always had a place in those moments, from vessels made to be used to pieces created simply to be admired. This vintage Sunflower Pattern Coiled Plaque, attributed to an unknown Hopi artist from Second Mesa and dating to the 1980s, brings pattern, craftsmanship and a sense of place into the home.

Native art is not simply a window into the past, it's evolving and deeply connected to the artists, communities and traditions from which it comes. This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we’re celebrating the artists who continue to carry those traditions forward while creating work that speaks to the world around them today.

What if visiting a gallery wasn't just about finding something beautiful for your home or a friend, but about discovering something that you didn't know before? At RedTail Gallery, we believe art can open the door to new perspectives. "Behind every painting, weaving, piece of jewelry and more, is an artist, a tradition and a story worth knowing," Elizabeth, co-owner shares. "Our collection of contemporary Native art offers an opportunity to learn about new cultures and creative voices behind the work."

One of the most rewarding parts of what we do is having the opportunity to share exceptional Native art with our Sarasota community and this year, that pride is especially strong.

In case you missed it: At the 2026 SWAIA Santa Fe Indian Market, two artists we proudly represent, Felix Vigil and Marla Allison, received top honors. Vigil’s bronze sculpture "Realm of the Rainmaker" received Best of Classification, Best of Division and First Place, while Allison’s painting "Life" received First Place, Best of Division and Best of Class.

RedTail Gallery co-owner William Yardley shares this on his favorite piece of the week, "Some pieces stay with you long after you first see them. Buffalo Dancers on the Plaza is one of those pieces for me. Raymond Naha captured something incredibly special, the movement of the dancers, the gathering of people and the feeling of community on the Hopi plaza. Every time I look at it, I notice something new.”

September 21st is International Day of Peace and at RedTail we're reflecting on how art creates bridges between cultures, connecting us to traditions different from our own. Our Native American weavings bring warmth into modern spaces, with patterns like Tree of Life, Yei’i, Chief’s Blanket and Teec Nos Pos telling stories through color and weave.

Creating more peace begins with taking the time to look and understand. Explore these weavings and more at redtailgallery.art/collections/weavings

During National Arts in Education Week, RedTail co-owner and artist Elizabeth Siegfried reflects on what art has taught her. “Maybe it was a teacher, a museum or a piece of art that changed the way I saw the world. What stayed with me was the feeling: place, family, memory and the stories that connect us to the past.”

Her photography reflects that lifelong curiosity, looking deeper and finding beauty in the layers of our shared human experience, as seen in Orange Pylon and Glass.

On National Wildlife Day, we're in awe of the powerful animals our artists capture in their most majestic forms. From the commanding presence of a buffalo to the quiet grace of an eagle in flight, wildlife has long inspired artists across the American Southwest.

Why bring an art gallery based on Native art to Sarasota? For RedTail, supporting Native artists means creating meaningful connections between artists, collectors and culture. "We wanted to create a setting where each piece can be seen for what it is: contemporary, expressive and deeply rooted at the same time,” says co-owner, Elizabeth Siegfried.

Art is more meaningful when you know whose hands created it.
