I put these together and was struck by the change in seasons represented. The bottom left piece was from a sunset in mid-August, the one with the barn, an early August sunset, the little fellow walking to points unknown, a mid-September afternoon, and then early October, bottom right. (A painting of our neighbor’s house/ yard in the early morning sunrise/mist.)
The townie piece was a late March afternoon around 2:30.

All watercolor sketches.

This watercolor has been a work in progress for a couple of days. 11 x 14 on Arches Rough Press. “Sunset on Simon Pond.”

Find these tonight (a mix of oil and archival watercolor) at Tupper Arts, Tupper Lake, NY. It’s the opening for this week’s plein air endeavors, capturing the splendor of autumn in the Adirondacks.

It’s day 1 of the Tupper Arts Plein Air Festival. It was drizzly, rainy at times and finally reached a high of 55! I decided to do a couple of watercolors. Tomorrow will be oils….

I do not go to McDonalds anymore, though today I made an exception to get a large hot tea, and no, I did not wash my brush in it-I save that for studio time, lol.

It’s the day before the last plein air event of the season. Spending all day outside painting is quite different than talking a walk outdoors. It might be compared to the difference between sautéing some shrimp and slow cooking a stuffed turkey for hours, mainly because we’re staying in the same place for half the day, then moving on and staying in another place for the other half. (We get basted in between moves if we’re lucky—it’s called lunch, lol.)

Today is BUSY with the last minute non-painting things to be done, and yesterday was busy getting all the plein air prep done. My entire foyer is full of things to go into the car, AND it’s art changing day at the gallery after 4:00. Then we have an interview with a very talented new gallery member hopeful. So excited about that!

If you’re local, do come to Tupper Arts on Friday evening for the opening for the plein air show. Hope to see you there!

Photo from last year, about halfway through the process.

And more autumn pieces. Sometimes I think I have only done a few of these. Ha.
