Welcome to the Creation and Earth History Museum. This museum was designed, built and operated by the Institute for Creation Research for nearly 20 years. Upon the Institute's move to Dallas, Texas in 2008, the museum, along with the building, was sold to Scantibodies Laboratory, Inc. Tom Cantor, the founder and owner of Scantibodies Laboratory, along with his wife Cheryl formed a non-profit 501(c)(3) ministry called Life and Light Foundation, from which to run the museum. Now owned and operated by the Life and Light Foundation, the museum remains a show case for a literal six day young earth creation model, true biblical history, and the incredible design of God's creation. CREATION MINUTE OF THE WEEK

Snowflake Design

Have you considered the beauty of snowflakes? A snowflake starts as a tiny crystal that forms around a speck of dust. As the water droplet freezes, the crystal starts to develop. As moisture is drawn, the six branches begin to grow. As each snowflake is blown around in a cloud, it encounters different temperatures and moisture levels, resulting in no two snowflakes looking alike.

If it is extremely cold, diamond dust snowflakes form. As the temperatures increase, different shapes will form: dendrites, prisms, or hollow columns. Humidity also is a factor; the more humidity present, the more complex the design.

The average complex snowflake is made up of 100 ice crystals. The number of ways these crystals can be arranged is staggering; the possible arrangements of these 100 crystals is greater than the total number of atoms in the universe. Every snowflake is truly unique.

It is also interesting to compare man-made snow from snow making machines to “God-made” snow. Man-made snow does not have any design but looks like rough gravel. With God’s snow, each snowflake has a unique design showing His creativity.

“He gives snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes.” - Psalm 147:16 (NASV)

CREATION MINUTE OF THE WEEK

The Global Flood

The credibility of a truly biblical worldview hinges on one key event of history – the reality of a worldwide flood. If this event was simply a local flood, then the enormous rock layers of the Earth must have taken enormous periods of time to form. Therefore, the geologic record of death, disease, extinctions, and bloodshed is a record of God creating a world full of tragedy – before mankind ever appeared.

However, if this flood really was global in extent and the consequence of a righteous God judging the actions of sinful mankind; it would have created the geology of our planet rapidly. Furthermore, God promised to NEVER send another flood like this upon the Earth – yet, there have been thousands of floods throughout Earth’s history.

Noah’s flood was global in extent! Much of the geology we see today was formed during or shortly after the Flood. This fact is central to a correct understanding of human history, the trustworthiness of God’s Word, and the character of God.

“Then God said to Noah and his sons… ‘I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.’” - Genesis 9:11 (NIV)

CREATION MINUTE OF THE WEEK

Biblical Truth

Evolution is simply a story to explain the existence of everything while denying the existence of a Creator. Those who believe in evolution make truth claims (random processes such as “mutations filtered by natural selection” created all biological life); yet, the very existence of truth depends upon the Biblical concept that truth exists. IF we are just gas molecules that turned into stars…that turned into elements…that turned into organic molecules…that turned into single-celled organisms…that turned into fish…that turned into land animals…that turned into ape-like creatures…that turned into people…then truth is a nonsensical concept.

How could hydrogen gas learn to think? How could truth be true if it happened by accident or chance? Thus, those claiming that evolution is THE truth, in reality, have to rely upon a Biblical concept of the existence of truth to make their argument that the Bible cannot be true.

“Wisdom calls aloud in the street, she raises her voice in public squares; at the head of noisy streets she cries out, in the gateways of the city she makes her speech…” - Proverbs 1:20-21 (NIV)

CREATION MINUTE OF THE WEEK

Marvels of Migration

Have you considered the migration of the black poll warbler? This crazy bird flies in the wrong direction when migrating! It starts its long journey by flying eastward, out over the Atlantic Ocean, before heading south to South America. Why not fly directly to South America?

It somehow knows to fly toward Africa at the exact time needed to catch higher winds that aid in its journey south. The warbler then relaxes and flies to Brazil with a minimum amount of effort. Young warblers kept in captivity with no training from their parents follow the same unusual path. How do they know how to do this?

Many other small songbirds from northeastern USA also fly over the Atlantic Ocean on their way to South America. Why don’t they take the land route? A narrow strip of Central America is the primary migration route for millions of raptors. These predator raptors need to fly on thermal air currents. The open ocean does not produce these needed thermals. So by flying out over the Atlantic Ocean, songbirds are safe from these predators. How did they know this? How do these birds know when to leave, what route to take, and where to go? It is written within their DNA code to follow this route at this particular time. It had to work the first time because a drowned or eaten songbird is of no use to the future of the species.

Black poll warblers aren’t so crazy after all!

“Oh, that I had wings like a dove! For then would I fly away, and be at rest.” – Psalm 55:6

CREATION MINUTE OF THE WEEK

The Trebuchet Plant!

The Bunchberry Dogwood plant has a built-in trebuchet! A what you ask!?

A trebuchet is a complex catapult like the ones used to launch large objects in the Middle Ages.

The North-American Bunchberry stands only one-tenth of an inch tall, so it needs to send its pollen up and out!

To catapult its pollen, bunchberry flower petals open, each petal is separated and flipped backwards, almost instantaneously the stamen unfurls, catapulting pollen into the air, sending it off to pollinate other bunchberries.

This causes the pollen to be subjected to 2,400 times the force of gravity!

Building a trebuchet took careful planning and design, testifying to the creative designer, God who created all things.

“Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.” Psalm 48:1

CREATION MINUTE OF THE WEEK

Geologic Flood Evidence

Due to record spring rainfall, water was diverted around the dam in Canyon Lake of Central Texas in the summer of 2002.

This flow carved through solid bedrock resulting in a two mile-long canyon up to 20 feet deep as well as tumbling many enormous boulders. Sediment to fill a thousand football stadiums was almost instantaneously displaced to downstream locations. All this happening within a three-day period!

This tiny geologic event was a drop in a swimming pool compared to the type of region-wide erosion happening all over our planet during Noah’s flood.

Our entire planet was resurfaced by flood flows a million times more powerful and widespread that the Canyon Lake release.

“Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished.
2 Peter 3:6

CREATION MINUTE OF THE WEEK

Mistletoe: Plant Parasites

The scientific name for mistletoe is Phoradendron, meaning “tree thief”. Mistletoe is commonly used as a Christmas decoration. The custom of kissing under mistletoe may be a carry-over from an older custom requiring enemies who met under a clump of mistletoe (whose extract is extremely poisonous) to disarm, embrace, and refrain from combat. Mistletoe is an agent of death in more ways than having poisonous leaves. It is a parasite which burrows its roots into the limbs of host trees and gradually sucks all of the moisture and nutrients out. The tree weakens and produces fewer leaves while the mistletoe spreads and produces more leaves. Eventually the only green left upon the tree are the mistletoe leaves. Once this happens, the mistletoe also dies. Why would evolution develop a process which automatically results in the organism’s own death?

Parasites exist only because we live in a fallen, death-filled, sin-influenced world. They testify to the reality of an intelligent designer who allowed death to enter creation because of mankind’s actions. Yet, this same Designer entered into creation as a babe in a manger, Jesus Christ, in order to conquer death by taking that penalty upon Himself. He then rose victorious over death. This is the real message and meaning of the Christmas season.

“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem… And they said unto him, in Bethlehem of Judea: for thus it is written by the prophet.” - Matthew 2:1, 5

CREATION MINUTE OF THE WEEK

Christmas Season and Adam & Eve

During the Middle Ages when many people did not know how to read, the church held plays to teach biblical truths. The play performed during the Christmas season was always about Adam and Eve. The play started with apples tied to an evergreen tree. There were no apple trees in cold, wintry Germany, so they used an evergreen tree with apples. Adam and Eve rebelled against God and ate one of the apples. Immediately, Adam and Eve knew their relationship with God had changed and attempted to hide, but God came looking for them. God had to remove them from the beautiful garden. Sin has been with us ever since. That is why we have death in the world; for the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). But how can sin be paid for? Who could make us clean again? Only one – God’s son. Jesus’ birth, which is celebrated at Christmas time, is all about paying the debt of Adam and Eve (and ours). Jesus came and paid that price with His death on the cross. Why a tree at Christmas?...to represent that first tree of life. Why an apple on the tree?...to remind us of our sinful choices. Why lights on a Christmas tree?...to signify the coming of the light of the world. Why are Christmas colors green, red, and white?...because of the tree of life (green), the forbidden fruit (red), and the light of the world (white). Christmas traditions, when properly understood, point to the profound truths of Christianity.

“I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” - John 12:46 (NIV)
