Where the river flows, so does the story 🎨🌿
“Art of the River” brings together a collective of artists whose work reflects the movement, memory, and natural beauty of the San Diego River—each offering a deeply personal interpretation of place.
Through layered acrylics, Kathryn Gail Ackley captures landscapes, whimsical moments, and shorebirds found along the river’s edge. Maureen Blackhall paints from memory—translating coastal scenes, family moments, and a lifetime near the water into quiet, reflective compositions.
Joan Boyer, a longtime oil and watercolor painter, brings a practiced plein air perspective, shaping natural surroundings into timeless works. Cathy Coverley leans into abstraction, blending color, emotion, and memory into expressive pieces inspired by the rhythms of the natural world.
Sue Britt’s work echoes the land itself—woven, carved, and layered to reflect the cycles of rivers, erosion, and time—while Gloria Chadwick channels her lifelong connection to the outdoors into vibrant works rooted in wildlife and the ever-changing landscapes of Southern California.
Together, their work becomes a reflection of the river itself—ever-changing, deeply rooted, and full of life.
