On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the rich histories, enduring traditions, and vibrant cultures of Indigenous communities. MVC recognizes Ventura County as the traditional homeland of the Chumash people, whose cultural heritage and connection to the land continue to thrive today.

This photograph captures a Chumash Dolphin Dancer performing at the Albinger Archaeological Museum in Ventura in September 1987, dressed in regalia and appearing to play a flute-like instrument.
