Yes, one more! This canvas displays a retro graphic “lightning” behind the model’s confident, seductive stare. The painting is 80s decorator friendly with a palette of gray, pink, and turquoise. Found in Nagel’s studio after he died, the work is one of the last canvases the artist would paint.
My friend Patrick Nagel Print & Art Collectors Information Resource previously discussed the similarities to the famous “Sushi Girl” image, “The pose, hair and straps match. Plus both images were created during the same narrow window of time. Also, there is a canvas version of the After Hours image that was found in Pat’s studio after his death.”
Starting bid is $25,000 with no bid yet…Why? It is most likely bidders are waiting to win “Polka Dot Dress” or “Close-up” in line first, but this canvas is gorgeous and really pops with the color alterations Nagel made. As I have some inside scoop, here is my recommendation: If you are a hopeful FIRST time canvas buyer and want to get in Nagel game, bid EARLY before the live auction as the increment bids heavily increase. This ONE might be a steal, simply because there are 3. The fact that it was one of the last in my opinion is a bonus. Really? Yes…
I personally own two unsigned boards that are LASTS and they are special. One was created for Pl***oy in February 1984 known as “Leather Cap”, never submitted to the magazine due to his untimely death, and the other is the LAST board ever published by Pl***oy prior to them re-printing images. Neither are signed, do I care? NOPE! Most of Nagel’s art sold out by the estate after Nagel’s passing was unsigned. It has not lowered values.
