Aweeshkone xaa/Nosuun lóoviq/Kaqʰinalin/Thank you for joining us as we build the capacity of Native Nations and Indigenous Peoples to protect sacred lands, waters, and cultures. Without your partnership and support, we would not be able to create paradigm shifts that support environmentally and socially just systems and assure the continuation of Indigenous cultures and people.

In celebration of we invite you to share this post to increase support for Native-led organizations nationwide.

If you are able to make a gift in support of our work, we greatly appreciate it! www.SacredPlacesInstitute.org

At this time, we are celebrating our Sacred Ecologies program as we believe that supporting land rematriation work is both an innovative and sustainable solution to the health and cultural issues for many Native Nations and Indigenous Peoples. Through our Sacred Ecologies program, we respond to requests from Native Nations and Indigenous-led organizations to work on specific environmental and cultural protection campaigns as threats to sacred places and environmentally sensitive habitats continue to multiply.

Since 2012, we have worked with Tongva, Tataviam, Chumash, Acjachemen, Luiseno, Cahuilla, Paiute, Kumeyaay, Kanaka Maoli, and many more California Native Nations to successfully protect sacred lands, waters, and cultures. In 2022, we launched our Indigenous Land Rematriation Fellowship— the first Fellowship of its kind in California and possibly in the country--- which has brought together 17 Acjachemen, Tongva, and Gabrielleno Fellows to visit successful sites of land rematriation so they can return to their home communities prepared with both the spiritual and legal knowledge to be able to rematriate their homelands.

Again, THANK YOU for partnering with us. As a Native-led and Native-staffed organization, we represent a rare composition for any organization, but especially within the environmental movement, as all of our Advisory Board are California Indian, and the majority of our staff are California Indian.

It's !

Today we're pleased to feature "El Pueblo: The Historic Heart of Los Angeles," available for the first time as a free PDF download https://gty.art/3xVVgBk

Founded in 1781 by pioneers from what is today northern Mexico, El Pueblo de Los Angeles mirrors the history and heritage of the city to which it gave birth. As Los Angeles burgeoned into a modern metropolis, its historic heart fell into ruin, to be revitalized by the creation in 1930 of the romantic Mexican marketplace at Olvera Street. "El Pueblo" vividly recounts the story of the birthplace of Los Angeles. An engaging historical narrative is complemented by abundant illustrations and a tour of the pueblo's historic buildings. The book also describes initiatives to preserve the pueblo's rich heritage and considers the significance of its multicultural legacy for Los Angeles today.

A big thanks to everyone who came out for these events! You may see yourself in this video. Many thanks and blessings to you all.

This mini doc tells the story of Imagining Santa Ana, an 8-part series of public humanities events which took place before, during and (hopefully) after the ...
