We've just posted our 2015 Cemetery Tour photos to our website at http://www.santaanahistory.com/events/ctour-2015/2015cemeterytour1.html There are a few more images than we had with our Facebook posting. Thanks again to all of the talented actors and the staff at OCSA, our wonderful volunteers (including all the parents whom supported their kids in this project), all of the sponsors who helped fund many of the behind-the-scenes work, and, of course, all the tour-ists who came and enjoyed the event. The funds we raise from this annual event help us keep history alive!

We're mourning the loss of a good friend this week - Ben Grabiel. Besides being a wonderful father and warm & kind friend to many, Ben was a long-time friend of Santa Ana and dedicated preservationist. Ben had been a board member of SAHPS for a few years and an associate board member for others. He was instrumental during the fight against One Broadway Plaza and later against the City's Station District project with its destruction of historic houses in the Lacy neighborhood. We will miss him!

Are you ready for this year's 17th annual historical cemetery tour entitled "A Hot Time in Old Orange County Tonight; Santa Ana’s Firefighting History”?

It will be held on Saturday, October 25 and you can buy tickets online at our website (linked below.)

Our 17th annual tour celebrates the proud heritage of local firefighters, from the earliest volunteers of the 1800s to the 20th century’s skilled professionals. Tour guides lead guests to the final resting places of historic local figures, set in the beautiful greenery of Fairhaven Memorial Park and Santa Ana Cemetery, where costumed actors play out scenes from Orange County history. You’ll hear the story of Deck and Dan, heroic local fire horses lost in WWI, meet family members who reluctantly share Papa’s volunteer firefighter duties, and learn what was behind the 1885 resignation of the entire fire department.

This event is an exciting and fun glimpse into the past! Small groups, a lovely outdoor setting, and close access to the actors make the tour an entertaining outing for the whole family. Comfortable shoes are recommended for the hour-and-a-half long walking tour.

The event is presented by the Santa Ana Historical Preservation Society and will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fairhaven Memorial Park, 1702 Fairhaven Ave., Santa Ana.

The unique “cemetery” tour has won a prestigious California State Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation. This is the Society’s 17th annual Living History tour, with proceeds benefiting the organization’s educational programs and two museums, The Dr. Willella Howe-Waffle House and Medical Museum, and the Santa Ana Fire Museum. The event is produced in partnership with local writers, and actors from the Thespian Club at Orange County School of the Arts. The tour is co-sponsored by Fairhaven Memorial Park.
