Opening Day & Fallen Veterans Tribute — Event Recap
Despite the cloudy skies and some rain drops, our community showed up in a big way today for Opening Day and the Fallen Veterans Tribute at the Sanford Centennial Museum. Your presence made this meaningful day even more special.
We began our 2026 season at 10 a.m., and at 1 p.m. the museum grounds gathered in solemn remembrance as Sanford American Legion Post 443 led a moving tribute to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. We are deeply grateful to them for their service and dedication.
A warm thank you as well to the Blue Star Mothers, who graciously provided dessert and fellowship for all who attended.
Following the tribute, the John Alden Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented a stirring reading of the Declaration of Independence as part of the Celebrate America 250 initiative—an inspiring reminder of the ideals that continue to guide our nation.
To everyone who joined us today: thank you. Your support, your presence, and your commitment to honoring our veterans and celebrating our shared history mean more than we can say. The Sanford Centennial Museum is proud to serve this community, and we’re excited for a full season ahead.
