Today’s THURSDAY HIKE followed several days of rain, so parts of the trail were still quite soggy. Camila restricted her route to the Main Trail and ventured back to check out Dog Falls. Rowetta joined the trek and shared her photos of the day. In addition to a few domestic blooms close to the Center, it looks like there’s an abundance of greenery in the gorge. Just four more Thursday Hikes left for this season! Join us next week!

SWEET SMILES — We want to thank these sweet folks from the Olive Hill Senior Citizens Center for visiting the Laurel Gorge Cultural Heritage Center today. They enjoyed browsing the museum, reminiscing, finding goodies in the gift shop, and sitting on the deck. They really enjoyed the comfy blue rocking chairs that Judge-Executive Myron Lewis supplied for the Center last fall. They’ve already decided they want a picnic on the deck next time they come! ❤️

BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLIES — These beauties are enjoying the flowers we’ve started along the top of the rock wall that runs alongside the Center. It’s just another reminder that there’s beauty in all seasons in the Laurel Gorge. 🌸

MAY CRAFTS — Among all the school groups that visited LGCHC over the last few weeks, we squeezed in a couple of fun craft sessions. We painted pretty pinecone flowers a couple of weeks ago, and today Lorie did a trivet workshop. We’re excited about some upcoming sewing and quilting sessions we already have scheduled for the summer, but we hope to have some fun craft workshops to add to the lineup too.

BEFORE & AFTER — A big tree across the walkway on the Main Trail was discovered by a visiting Girl Scout troop yesterday evening. A message for help this morning to our volunteer was quickly answered. The path is clear once again thanks to Scott Davis!! Thanks for dodging rain showers today and bringing the chainsaw to clear the way!🙂

Woo-hoo! It's a BLOCK PARTY (quilt block, that is!) at LGCHC coming up on June 25-27. It's our version of a quilt retreat, and we're anticipating a lot of fun. It's a three-day event with food, games, prizes, fun, and QUILT BLOCKS! Each day will offer two quilt block workshops by various presenters, and participants will get to keep their blocks. Each day will also offer a quilt block challenge in which all quilt blocks will be donated to complete a quilt for a special cause. Dates, times, fees, and projects are all listed in the schedule. Space will be limited, so ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST RSVP BY JUNE 19TH. Feel free to message or call 606-738-5543 for further information.

Our COMMUNITY SEW DAY turned into a very productive afternoon. A couple of the ladies brought in fabric for Liz’s approval for our next quilt-along series. Meanwhile, several different projects were underway: Liz’s star quilt, Barbara’s triple Irish chain, Taryn’s embroidery on a quilt block, and my strip cutting for a string quilt. Liz and I also spent a few minutes putting a summer schedule together for the next quilt-along series and a few sewing workshops (to be posted very soon!!!) We also shared the schedule for our upcoming quilting retreat — a first for LGCHC! (Also to be posted very soon!) There’s SEW much happening on Tuesdays this summer at LGCHC. Don’t miss out on these great opportunities!
