Today we kick off our new project "History: Out and About." We shifted the focus of our upcoming exhibit "History of DeKalb County in 100 objects" to feature the history all around us (compared to stories and objects physically located at the History Center or at other local historical societies).

Each week we will highlight one of DeKalb County's 19 Townships. Stories will include information about 1) Historical objects/places 2) Bonus history stops 3) Fun facts 4) Places with great stories that are no longer standing. Then on Friday, you can enjoy all of the posts along with a map on our website.

This week is all about Sandwich Township.

In 2010 St. Paul’s Catholic Church was moved from Eddy Street to the west end of Arnold Road. Many people lined the route to its new location. The church was built in 1858 for a Presbyterian Church, and bought by the Catholics in 1910. Unfortunately in 2013 it was destroyed by fire, but it was rebuilt to replicate the original church.
