𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘢: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 is a series of animated films, dioramas and photography situated in ecologically stressed environments, inventing characters and objects that are assembled from unique biological debris. A work of hopeful regeneration, it is fueled by research in climate collapse and the ways living things evolve to meet the challenges of a rapidly shifting world.
The intention is to address a sense of wonder and loss, offering an experience of small and large worlds that are unseen or forgotten. Our ecosystems have the ability to remake themselves in times of great stress. The work contains the hope of a future of nature that embraces both the sadness of what is passing and a celebration of what will come.
Note: Chimera are fantasy creatures that feature parts of various animals. They appear in the mythological stories of cultures worldwide and are also found in plant and animal species as a hallmark of evolution.

Vicky Hoffman: 𝘖𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘰𝘴
McMeen Gallery Spotlight, Jun 5 – Aug 15, 2026

𝘖𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘰𝘴 is a year-long mixed media project by regional artist Vicky Hoffman about experimentation, persistence, and showing up to make art. In 2024, the artist set out to make one new artwork per week, resulting in a series of mixed media “tiles,” all cut from a single large roll of watercolor paper. The series began with a continuous graphite line drawn across all the tiles, serving as an anchor and a path into the creative process. The works are intuitive and layered, built up with materials like graphite, acrylic, Japanese kozo paper, produce netting, and copper wire. The tiles can be arranged in different ways: by the original continuous line, in the order they were made, or simply by feel. Each arrangement tells a different story about the evolution of thought, emotion, and mark-making.

On Tuesday, June 16, kick off your evening at SLOMA’s 3rd annual GAYthering, a free community celebration of connection, creativity, and LGBTQ+ pride. Join us from 5–8 PM for art, conversation, and community in the heart of downtown San Luis Obispo. GAYthering 2026 is free and welcoming to all. ✨

We’re excited to welcome a new team member to SLOMA 🤍✨
Meet Elysia, our new Administrative & Operations Assistant!
Raised on the Central Coast, Elysia has a background in administration, operations, and creative support roles across several local businesses. She enjoys bringing organization and care to collaborative environments and is especially drawn to spaces that connect people through creativity and community.

At SLOMA, she is excited to support the museum’s growth while continuing to learn more about the local arts community. Outside of work, Elysia enjoys cooking, interior design, vintage shopping, spending time along the California coast, and relaxing at home with her cat.
