Recently, Hindu groups in San Jose protested the San Jose Museum of Art‘s screening of Nina Paley’s film Sita Sings the Blues and display of a M.F. Husain painting that features an abstract representation of Sita.

Today in 1910, Mother Theresa was born. Artist M.F. Husain was deeply moved by meeting Mother Teresa, saying: “I have tried to capture in my paintings what her presence meant to the destitute and the dying...” Here's his 1989 painting, on view in "Roots in the Air."

Sad news that "Roots in the Air" artist M.F. Husain has died in London.

The "Picasso of India" set auction records for Indian painting, but lived in exile because of death threats from Hindu extremists.
