What is Bangungot?

Bangungot is a pathology experienced by many individuals of Asian heritage that manifests as an apparition during sleep paralysis hallucinations. People who experience Bangungot report that a ghost comes to them in their sleep and tries to suffocate them. In a statistically significant number of cases, Bangungot results in death. The CDC calls the pathology sudden unexplained nocturnal death syndrome (SUNDS), because victims were apparently healthy and postmortem examinations reveal no underlying cause of death. I had Bangungot in my youth and survived to finish a sculpture of the phantasm.
