The last treasure to be framed before our opening reception on September 12, from 5-8pm. The piece title, Benefactor, is from 1955–the same year the work by Wolfe held in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art was painted.

Continuing our exploration of our upcoming exhibition “Between Gesture and Form: Abstraction from Mid-century to Now,” you can see another pairing showing the three artists working with similar types of line and form. The end results may differ but the types of movement and gesture are consistent whether shown in the drawing by Jack Wolfe from 1963, the oil on canvas by Walter Quirt from 1964, or the steel sculpture from J. Nick Taylor from 2023, 60 years in the future.

Be sure to join us on Saturday, September 12 from 5-8 pm for the opening reception.

“Between Gesture and Form: Abstraction from Mid-century to Now” will feature historic works from the estates of Jack Wolfe and Walter Quirt, paired with contemporary sculpture by J. Nick Taylor. Join us at the opening reception on September 12 from 5 to 8 PM.

Over the next few weeks we will highlight some of the pairings that show how visual language forged in the 1950s and 60s extends into the present and future. Whether through line shape, color, rhythm, or tempo, the commonalities between these three artists are evident and exciting.
