๐ผ: 'Vestibule in the Asylum' (1889)
This is the entrance hall of the asylum in Saint-Rรฉmy-de-Provence, where Vincent van Gogh admitted himself after struggles related to his mental health. Van Gogh would go outside to draw or paint when he felt up to it, as he often found the beauty in nature uplifting. The medieval building originated as a monastery, which in general have exquisite architecture. Van Gogh began this piece on pink paper, as you can see from the color of the floor, as well as black chalk lines from the underdrawing. After his sketch was complete, he painted over the drawing with oil paints to create this final product.
