On April 3, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Hualien County, Taiwan, resulting in at least 16 deaths and more than 1,100 individuals injured.

The national army was deployed to assist with earthquake rescue and recovery efforts, and the government established a disaster response center in Hualien, the city closest to the epicenter.
