If you'd like to learn how Suzanne Hetzel moves from realistic subjects to more creative, dynamic, and abstract interpretations, there's still time to join her upcoming 3-day Zoom workshop, "Florals and Fruit: From Real to Really Amazing."

He is a brand ambassador for Daniel Smith so we got the added bonus about special color, dot cards to use and squirts of Pyrrol Orange!! The perfect color of pumpkins!! Thanks Gabriel!

Meet the Artist: Denise Cerro

What’s in a title? For Denise Cerro, the answer is right there in the painting. Her mixed-media piece, "The Writing Is on the Wall," gets its name from the handwriting she incorporated into the work.

In this video, Denise shares a little about her process and her exploration of color, working with red, yellow, and blue and experimenting with how the colors come together. The result is this beautiful 36 x 24-inch mixed-media piece.

See "The Writing Is on the Wall" and all of the 105 paintings in the SDWS 46th International Exhibition, on view through October 31 at the SDWS Gallery in Arts District Liberty Station. We're open daily from 11 AM to 3 PM.

What great events! The First Look & Awards Gala and the First Friday Opening Reception for the San Diego Watercolor Society's 46th International Exhibition were filled with celebration, connection and incredible watermedia art! Guests and artists from around the world mingled as they took in this world-class exhibition. Thank you to juror for curating such a stand-out show!

Both events were high energy, and collectors showed their enthusiasm with 11 paintings sold for a total of $35,890.

Huge congratulations to every artist accepted into the show and to all the award winners! A huge thank you to our volunteers, and to all attendees who made the nights so memorable.

The exhibition runs through October 31, and the SDWS Gallery is open daily from 11 AM - 3 PM. Admission is free, but there's a very good chance you'll want to purchase something! And please do - 30% of painting sales from the exhibition contribute directly to our SDWS education and community outreach programs.

Join SDWS for a fall Demo Paintout at Summers Past Farms on Saturday, October 10 at 9 AM.

We'll be painting in the pumpkin patch, making the most of all those great fall colors and, of course, plenty of orange.

Our demo artist, Gabriel Stockton, is a Daniel Smith Watercolors and Escoda Brand Ambassador, as well as a studio and plein air artist who loves capturing historic and outdoor scenes around San Diego.

Gabriel will share his approach to plein air painting, including using value and shadows, working loosely, and knowing when to bring in the details. He'll also be bringing Daniel Smith Pyrrol Orange, which he says is “the color of pumpkins,” along with Dot Cards for us to try.

The demo is free and open to all! Bring your painting supplies, plenty of water, a lunch, and an umbrella for shade. And wear orange for extra fun!

The sales keep coming! 🎨

Four more paintings have found new homes, bringing the SDWS 46th International Exhibition total to 11 paintings sold for $34,990.

That puts this year’s exhibition at the second-highest sales total in the history of the show​ - and there’s still ​most of October left​. Don’t delay viewing the show to find and purchase your favorite before someone else does!
