Very sad to hear of the passing of San Diego’s beloved Jfre Coad. If you were a regular you knew him and loved him. He had a heart of gold, was a total weirdo, crazy artist, supporter of all things creative, and a hardcore advocate for chasing joy 💛
He would save me magazines for my collages and always was genuinely interested in what I was working on art wise. After opening Trash Lamb, I’d often be out front smoking when he’d ride by on his bike. I’d scream out “Jeffrey” and he’d scream out “Melody” as loud as we both could. If he wasn’t headed in for work at the bar, he’d pop in to see whatever show was up and chat for a while 💛
We both struggle with depression and would often talk about it when we saw each other. This particular time I’m thinking of he was telling me how he had constructed a “Disco Ball Shower”, with color changing strobe lights. Something to make showering feel more enticing, more like a fun party. That was Jfre. Always chasing the light. That cackle of his and the best laugh ever. I will miss seeing him when I visit San Diego 💛
These are the last pics I have of him taken in 2022. He had come by Rick’s art opening, it was late and the crowd had thinned out and it was the end of the night. There were just a handful of old friends left. I’d just smoked the biggest joint, Rick was drunk AF and on his 8,000th tequila, and then there’s, Jfre with his classic grin 💛
See you out there in space someday, buddy. Say hi to Rick for me 🪐
