Jim Moreno is the Poet- In-Residence of the Juvenile Court and Community Schools, and an Artist in Residence with Young Audiences of San Diego and The Queen Bee's Art & Cultural Center . He has been a board member of the African American Writers & Artists and was a original member of the Langston Hughes Poetry Circle. He is on the advisory board of the Poetic Medicine Institute and hosts the Fourth Thursday Open Mic at the Space Bar Internet Cafe in La Mesa. Jim believes that teaching poetry begins with teaching cultural respect and cooperation. An adopted member of the Barbareno Chumash tribe, he blends Native American culture and philosophy into his teaching approach.
