Nothing makes me crave a big ol’ bowl of homemade soup more than some cloudy, rainy weather 🌧️

So let me take a moment to introduce to you these two magnificent soup tureens! 🍲✨

What makes a soup tureen special?

Well, these large stoneware vessels include matching handles for easy carrying, a matching lid to trap heat, and a matching ladle with a specialized notch in the lid so the ladle can rest inside while covered.

On the technical side, these tureens have also been fired to cone 10 (that’s around 2,390°F) which makes them incredibly durable, hard and resistant to chipping. Best of all, fully vitrified Cone 10 clay is nonporous even without glaze, meaning it will not absorb liquids or harbor dangerous bacteria 🦠

Another big benefit of a ceramic soup tureen is that it does not react chemically with acidic foods (like tomato based soups or citrus broths), ensuring no metallic or synthetic off flavors leach into your meal!

It’s the perfect piece for all of your delicious soups! 🍲 🍜

Check out these delightful pieces in our gallery made by one of our lovely assistants Alfie Dempsey. Her process is the intersection where functional pottery meets illustration! 🎨

What makes Alfie’s work so incredible is that each of these pieces start as raw, wheel thrown clay which becomes her blank canvas. With her masterful brush control, she is able to meticulously paint these vibrant illustrations directly onto the clay body before it ever meets the kiln!

From the intricate silhouettes of the palm fronds against that gorgeous sunset gradient to the whimsical speckles on the mushroom caps, you can truly feel the artist’s hand in every single stroke! 🍄🌴

Alfie is just one of the over 30 incredible artists we represent here in the studio. Whether you are looking for bold sculptural work or unique functional favorites, there is a massive variety to explore right now! ✨
