Do it!
💛 Do you love this giant Frida head and would you like to make your own for the 2026 Parade for the Arts for the 🎨33rd annual SALIDA ARTWALK? ☝🏽This Frida puppet was created by local artist Krista Jarvis, commissioned in 2024 by Salida Arts & Culture Creative District for the first Salida ArtWalk Parade for the Arts. The giant Frida head has become a signature piece, and last year Frida was accompanied by a dozen walking Fridas in costume for the 2025 parade!
📣It's time to make more puppet heads for the 2026 ArtWalk Parade to be held Saturday, October 10 at 5:30pm. Salida Arts & Culture invites community members to come and make your own giant headpiece during free workshops to be held Tuesdays September 8, 15, 29 & October 6, from 6-7:30pm at the Salida Scout Hut.
☝🏽Instruction & basic materials (cardboard, tape, paper mache, etc.) provided though you will need some of your own materials such as paint, fabric, ribbon, pvc pipe, etc. for the details. Bring interesting cardboard shapes to share! Workshops led by Tina Gramann and/or Krista Jarvis.
💛Tina is the Arts & Culture programs supervisor for the City of Salida and also a community artist (creator of the Asia Fest Dragon Parade, alebrijes workshops, and art teacher.) Krista is a costume designer, properties artist, and founder of EyeDia Designs.
🎨Each workshop will present design and construction ideas. Join us for all of the workshops or come and go for inspiration and make your piece at home.
💡Will you make a giant animal head, a giant sun, a paintbrush and palette, or something imaginary? Come with Parade for the Arts ideas, we can't wait to see what you create in 2026!
🧠To Bring: Ideas and recycled items to share such as cardboard tubes, bottles, tubs, trays, egg cartons, foam, packaging materials, etc., problem solving skills and positivity.
🎉Parade Details: The Parade for the Arts will take place Saturday evening, October 10 after a full day of art viewing, approximately 5:30pm down F St to Riverside Park culminating in the Salida ArtWalk Party at the bandshell with entertainment by local performance groups and dancing to live music by Mo'Champipple and the Miso Horns.
