🌟Introducing our third featured artist of August, photographer and painter Mary Staby!🌟
Mary Staby is a mixed-media artist and photographer based in Salida whose work is deeply influenced by her Norwegian and Danish heritage, her travels, and the landscapes she calls home. Since 1989, she has combined photography with handpainting, creating unique works inspired by the seas, mountains, lakes, rivers, and wide-open spaces of Norway, Denmark, Colorado, the American Southwest, and beyond.
Working primarily with black-and-white film and silver gelatin prints, Mary transforms photographs with richly layered oil paint, expressive brushwork, and unexpected color. Rather than simply recreating what she sees, she uses color, texture, perspective, and whimsy to reinterpret each scene, allowing the photograph and painting to become something entirely new.
