Gardner Lake near Norwich, Connecticut, is home to one of New England’s strangest legends. In the winter of 1895, a family attempted to move an entire house across the frozen lake when the ice gave way, leaving the structure partially submerged. Local folklore later claimed that on quiet nights, the sound of its piano could still be heard beneath the water. The lake is peaceful today, but the story of its sunken house remains part of Connecticut folklore.
