It was a great first session of rope making for the 2027 Oil Spring exhibit! Nya:wëh to Elia Vargas for leading the group’s conversation about exploring Seneca and Indigenous relationships with oil. Ja:göh to all of our participants for sharing their knowledge and the time and care they put into the rope project.

Want to be a part of an upcoming 2027 installation at the museum? Join us this Saturday, as we begin working on an art project led by Elia Vargas, a University of Buffalo professor and professional media artist. We will discuss Oil Spring and the impact and legacy the oil has had on Onödowa'ga:' and other Indigenous communities.

Due to wet conditions, this will be held in the Seneca-Iroquois National Museum classroom. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided! See you all then 😊

Nya:wëh to all those who stopped by this past Tuesday and participated in our first dugout canoe building session. We will be working on the canoe every Tuesday at 11am over the next few months. Come join us! 💪🏽

Once it’s completed, we will take it out for a sail on the Ohi:yo’ and display the community’s hard work in a new exhibit. Ja:göh all!

Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day! Seneca Iroquois National Museum is CLOSING EARLY ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9th at 1pm and CLOSED ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 12th in honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day.
