Moore Methodist Museum

Moore Methodist Museum The Moore Methodist Museum houses a vast collection of books and artifacts about our founders John and Charles Wesley. Simons Island history.

Located on the beautiful grounds of Epworth by the Sea, the Arthur Moore Methodist Museum is named after Bishop Arthur James Moore, who served as bishop for over 20 years throughout the world. We are the official repository of records for the archives of the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. You will find exhibits that range from Georgia history to a large collection of nati

vities from around the world. Come and walk in the foot-steps of John and Charles Wesley, ride along with a circuit rider as he spreads the word of God, and learn about St. See how each country celebrates the birth of Jesus, as Christ is for the whole world. Our museum is staffed by two conference employees and a host of dedicated volunteers. Everyday our workroom is a buzz of activity. Not only do we interact with our visitors who walk through the museum, but we also receive research requests from around the United States. The staff hopes to see you as we continue to be your "ministry of memory".

John Wesley on the Trinity—

By a single act of my will, I put my head, eyes, hands, or any part of my body into motion: Although I no more comprehend how I do this, than I can comprehend how the “THREE that bear record in heaven are ONE.” ~ John Wesley (What is Man?)

We celebrate John Wesley's conversion on Aldersgate Sunday, May 24. According to his journal, Wesley found that his enthusiastic gospel message had been rejected by his Anglican brothers. Heavy-hearted, he reluctantly attended a group meeting that evening in a Moravian meeting house (the Fetter Lane Society) on Aldersgate Street in London. It was there, while someone was reading from Martin Luther's Preface to the Epistle to the Romans, that he felt that his heart was "strangely warmed". He describes it as: "I felt I did trust in Christ, Christ alone, for salvation; and an assurance was given me that he had taken away my sins, even mine, and saved me from the law of sin and death."

Charles Wesley was the first of the two to be justified by faith, and on Whitsunday, May 21, 1738, he experienced Pentecost. He wrote in his journal that the Spirit of God “chased away the darkness of my unbelief.” The prolific hymnist (eventually he wrote six to seven-thousand hymns) wrote a hymn to commemorate his day of salvation. While scholars debate which of three possibilities was this conversion hymn, one likely candidate is the hymn that asks, “And can it be that I should gain an interest in the Saviour’s blood?” The last verse triumphantly proclaims:
No condemnation now I dread,
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine:
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness Divine,
Bold I approach th’ eternal throne,

And claim the crown,

through Christ, my own.
