📣🐺 Howling to let you know there's only two weekends left to see "Wolves: Photography by Ronan Donovan" at The James! Make your way over before it closes on September 7.

A wolf's howl can travel as far as 10 miles (16 kilometers) in a vast, open landscape like Ellesmere Island. Here, sisters One Eye and Bright Eyes howl to family members who were moving south to survey their territory.

“Wolves: Photography by Ronan Donovan” is a traveling photography exhibit curated by The National Museum of Wildlife Art and the National Geographic Society.

What is a Museum Registrar? 🤔

Put simply, the registrar is in charge of caring for the museum’s collection. Which can entail a lot of different tasks and responsibilities, including:

📝 Records Management: Cataloguing all incoming objects, coordinating loans and shipments.
💦 Collections Management: Maintaining environmental standards, light, temperature and humidity, to prevent object deterioration.
🩹 Risk Management: Developing and maintaining museum policies to keep the art and collection safe.

While registrars work closely with curators to plan exhibitions, gallery changes, and exhibiting the museum’s collection, they are not responsible for creating or developing exhibitions.

Registrars play a very important role in keeping our collection safe. This way, everyone can enjoy the art for generations! 👏 Thank you, Museum Registrars!

🦋💛 "Love is like a butterfly, as soft and gentle as a sigh, the multicolored moods of love are like its satin wings."

We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton. While she never visited the museum, we like to think she would've enjoyed this stunning squash blossom necklace in our Jewel Box, which features two of her favorite things: butterflies and sparkle. Rest in peace, Dolly. 💛

New in the Galleries ✨🎨🖼️

The Native Artists gallery has recently gotten some new pieces, including a very special loan from Art Bridges Foundation.

“Like Rain” by James Lavadour (Walawalałáma) is a powerful painting from one of the Northwest’s most significant contemporary artists. The vibrant hues represent rocky cliffs engulfed by fire and smoke in eastern Oregon, where the artist grew up on the Umatilla Reservation. This expressive oil painting is a must-see! It will be on display for one year, until August 2027.

Look for “Like Rain” and other pieces behind the Jewel Box.
