Woodson African American Museum, was founded in 2006. The mission of The Woodson is two-fold:

1) To preserve, present, and interpret African American history and to engage a broad and diverse audience through these activities.

2) To promote an understanding among various groups that comprise the St. Petersburg community to enhance our ability as a society to respect, value diversity, and foster equal rights and social justice.

What an amazing week at The Woodson!

We were honored to host Preserve the ’Burg’s Porch Party, welcoming an impressive crowd eager to learn more about The Woodson and the richness of Black history and culture.

A heartfelt thank-you to Manny Leto and his team for orchestrating a wonderful evening that began in our beautiful Legacy Garden and continued in the gallery with an introduction to The Woodson, followed by engaging questions and answers.

Connecting community, cultivating curiosity, and celebrating our stories, one experience at a time!

What an extraordinary honor to welcome Nashid Madyun, Executive Director of Florida Humanities, and members of its Board to The Woodson African American Museum of Florida!

Our visit was meaningful and inspiring as we celebrated the shared mission of preserving and amplifying our stories.

We are grateful to Florida Humanities for recognizing The Woodson as a cultural treasure and for selecting us as a grant recipient, alongside the Smithsonian, to host “Many Voices, One Nation: Our Community” in recognition of America 250.

Special nod to Manitia Moultrie, curator of this well received exhibition.
