Here we have a 25” Greiner #6, with a partial label, that for some long time lived in tragic circumstances. Today, she is now released from rehab, having had a partial arm transplant, nose reconstruction, and refreshment of some of her painted face. I was fortunate enough to find an 1870’s tin-type photo, showing what must be the same mold of this doll with her young owner. I’ve included some photos of my process with her over the last couple of months.

If anyone has an interest in bringing her home, feel free to message me. I had the joy of bringing her back to life, and would sell her at my cost.

This is a smaller (13”) antique papier mache M&S head on her original cloth body. Although the head no longer has its paper label, I recognize the distinctive hair style.

When I received her into rehab she had a severely broken arm, which wasn’t helped by the fact that a helpful emt had merely taped it back into place. She was suffering from contusions and dings on her face and also had nothing appropriate to wear.

I slowly rebuilt her arm to save it, rather than giving her a transplant. I repainted her.

Did the M&S company make heads with darker skin tones in the 1870’s? I suspect they did not.

I once had a professor of history that used to tell us……”if you can imagine it, someone else has already done it.” In my imagination, someone in the 1870’s would surely have repainted a head now and then to represent a doll differently. I envision an historical context in which such a doll was cherished. I have signed this doll in the back.

Living the life of a high school teacher, I always knew I would not be sitting in the front row of antique doll auctions. I resolved to create what my heart might desire.

One long year in the early 2000’s I acquired this 5” antique all bisque doll from France, and so loved her I (slowly) made a very detailed trousseau, all by hand. Although sold to me as French, for full disclosure, the bent arms make me question if she might be German.

That’s not what stands out…it is instead the 14 complete outfits, 3 capes, unders, a bustle pad and NINE tiny hats all meticulously made including details like tiny piping, just to fit this exact doll. These little dresses, each about 3” in length, were all made from antique fabric and trims including at least one costume with glass beading. They are so tiny that they do not have hooks and eyes for closure (as was true of many antique originals) but would rely on either pins or a single stitch to hold them closed.

I have kept them safe and together for over 20 years, but now know I have only time for my pursuit of making cloth dolls. I am hoping someone else would love to keep her safe and enjoy the vision I created for her a quarter century ago: she is now available.

Once upon a long time ago when I was at the height of my ability to hand-sew, I made a trousseau for this small (8”) all bisque Bru doll made by Emily Hart. The trousseau consists of a mohair wig, a slip and pantalettes, and six dresses, one has an apron, and one also has a silk over-cloak. One straw hat. I made them all. They were all sewn by hand; please look at the detail.

Only a couple of the pieces are signed, I suspect I thought I would never see a day I would part with them, but my interests are now elsewhere. One bears a date of 2012, and another 2008.

Now available, a 17” painted cloth doll as Little Red Riding Hood. I made the doll entirely, and she has been repainted a couple of times to finally get what I had in mind for her.

All of her clothing is antique, and in addition, she comes with the items shown, including her basket, AND the cut-out paper wolf, which was also drawn and painted by me. Note the painted Izannah curls.

Offered is an antique wooden painted box in its original paint with two dolls and extra treasures. Measuring 9” by 12”, the box has the remnants of a decal of a young girl holding a book and also a porcelain k**b. Inside is a 10” all cloth doll with a very detailed painted face/hair, representing an antebellum American girl. I made the entire doll as well as the dress she wears. She was given a fantastic set of antique unders. Her antique tiny bonnet is among the best I have ever had. In addition, she has a wonderful antique cape that was made by hand.

Keeping her company is a very tiny Japanese clothespin doll that I also made, using a tiny antique child’s toy wooden clothespin. And lastly, there is a tiny antique jewelry box, containing a tiny antique locket that opens, but does not have a chain.

Now available, a 20” Izannah Walker inspired doll, carefully crafted to resemble my antique doll which I used as a model. This doll, known as Ella June, has an older cloth body, to which I made and attached a cloth shoulderhead, which has an original shallow clay sculpt. I made the arms and lower legs as well, and those parts are painted in acrylic and water-mixable oil paint. The doll was also given a “second skin” covering over the cloth body to resemble those made by Walker.

The doll wears antique underclothing, including pantalettes and a slip. I made her skirt from nineteenth century fabric, which is cartridge pleated. She also wears a blouse that was originally hand-sewn and amended for her, as well as an apron with original hand-sewn soutache attached.

Included here are some process photos which show my use of my antique doll as a model for painted curls and proportion.

Her purchase price is $1400, which includes shipping in the U.S. I do not ship outside of the U.S. Layaway is available for $200 a month or more. Checks preferred, Paypal Goods and Services is also available for an additional 3%; layaway payments would be $206 a month.
