The Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin

The Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin Contains many interesting articles contributed by descendants of as many as 40 pioneer families. It was dedicated on June 14, 1931.

These items were carried across the plains by many of the original families who crossed the Oregon Trail to the Willamette Valley. The Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin Museum is located within the Champoeg State Heritage Area, overlooking the Willamette River. The OSSDAR began construction of the cabin in 1929 and finished in 1931. Built to honor early pioneer mothers, the cabin is constructed of pe

eled hand-hewn logs with a massive stone fireplace at one end of the main living room. The cabin has a sleeping loft and two small bedrooms. It is a replica, much enlarged, of the type of log cabin erected by early pioneers.

Remember to visit us at our Newell Pioneer page where we post all of our activities and photos now. It has been over a year since the move of the cabin was completed and we are simply loving the fact that we saved this treasure, and what it does for the Newell Pioneer Village. It is beautiful!

Education Coordinator – Part time (fluctuates seasonally) with a start date of 5/1/16. Requirements – high school diploma; reliable transportation; ability to work weekends during the busy season; willingness to work a variety of tasks within the position, as well as the ability to work well with others. Job includes planning and implementing educational programs within a living history environment. An old fashioned 4th of July event at the Newell Pioneer Village included a "history bee" for all ages, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, patriotic songs, and pie!
