At Studio 2, art and good company always go hand in hand. Whether we’re hosting an event, curating the shop, or simply gathering with friends, there’s always something inspiring — and something refreshing — waiting to be shared.

Thanks to Kate Fones at the St Michaels Museum for helping us research our building at 202 South Talbot this week. The ground floor of the building has housed many business including the Comet newspaper and the A&P market. It’s great to see details of the light fixtures and ceiling tiles for inspiration as we undergo the restoration. Kate also shared the name of the architect Edmund Lind. We’re hoping to find more details about its construction from his journal at the Maryland State Archives.

We invite you to visit our newest installation “This shore, these stories…” at Studio 2.

The exhibit underscores our belief that we inherit our sense of place not from monuments or edifices but from one another. Each life, briefly intersecting with others, leaves its mark—threads crossing and recrossing over time—together forming the living fabric of the Eastern Shore.

This collection was brought to life by local artist Scott Sullivan. Through his understanding of the significance of individual lives, he sheds figurative light on how each person’s presence contributes to—and shapes—the story we share.

Now showing at Studio 2: “The Red Parasol” (18” x 18”, oil on canvas) by St. Michaels artist Scott Sullivan captures a quiet, contemplative moment. A poised figure in a softly detailed kimono stands against a bold crimson parasol, whose radiating lines create striking contrast and visual energy. Blending realism with graphic elegance, this piece feels both timeless and modern—an intimate portrait with a powerful sense of design.

Sullivan’s background in design and illustration shows in the balance and clarity of the composition—he has worked professionally as an art director and illustrator before focusing on fine art in St Michaels Maryland

Did you know Studio2 shares space with a hidden vaudeville theater? In addition to building Saint Michaels’ premier fine art gallery, we are working to restore a forgotten treasure. Tonight, we uncovered this “broadside” flyer for a three night performance that took place in December of 1911.

Hugo Rewelly and George Hendrickson were professional jugglers who performed as a duo in American vaudeville during the early 20th century.
As a recognized act on the variety circuit, they were known for their skill with clubs and other traditional juggling props. From the advertisement, it seems their ability to juggle bubbles set them apart from rival acts.

The duo were primarily "comedy jugglers" or "dumb acts" (acts that do not speak), which allowed them to perform easily across international circuits. They frequently appeared on the Keith-Albee-Orpheum circuit, the most prestigious vaudeville network in the United States.
