The Pony Express 5k Rides Again!

Get ready to saddle up—because the Pony Express 5K is back and helping to support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital!

Join us on Saturday, June 6th at 8:00 AM (race to end at 9:30AM) for the return of the Pony Express 5K, starting and finishing at the iconic Pony Express Museum. This exciting race brings together runners, walkers, and community members for a fun and meaningful cause.

This year’s event benefits St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by supporting the Measly Mile Mafia Heroes as they train and fundraise for the New York City Marathon. Are you a history buff? Here is a deep dive into how you're event became the St. Joseph Marathonthis, still with 🐎 Roots in the Pony Express Race!

The race’s evolution began in 2012 with a community-oriented Pony Express 5K and 10K hosted by the Junior League. It expanded into a half marathon by 2014, steadily growing with local support until COVID. The race reorganized back into a 5k, becoming the first recognized event of the local Measly Mile Mafia!

In 2023, in partnership with the St. Joseph Sports Commission, the event transformed into the full-fledged St. Joseph Marathon, now featuring four distances and a city-wide route that celebrates St. Joseph’s Pony Express heritage while continuing to support local nonprofits, as well as a great after party in the Civic Center Park! It’s a great example of how historic identity and community initiative can come together to create a meaningful and growing sporting tradition.
