Today, we're grateful for artists who help preserve history, inspire reflection, and remind us of where hope begins.
Our heartfelt thanks go to Lenny Foster's Gallery One Forty Four for the generous donation of this powerful photograph “Walking with Dr. King”, which will soon be displayed in the Goff Family Shelter. The piece will hang beside the iconic image of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. walking with children down Washington Street in front of what is now the St. Francis House Shelter during the Civil Rights Movement—a meaningful reminder of our community's past and our shared responsibility to shape its future.
Donated in memory of former St. Augustine Commissioner Richard White, this artwork carries both historical significance and personal meaning. Through his photography, Lenny seeks to create images that invite reflection and celebrate the beauty, power, and spirit found within people and places. His ‘Where We Stand’ series, inspired by St. Augustine's Civil Rights history, encourages viewers to connect more deeply with the stories that have shaped our community.
We were honored to welcome Lenny Foster to the Goff Family Shelter Community Open House last month, where he witnessed firsthand the next chapter being written within these walls.
Thank you, Lenny, for helping transform a shelter into a place of healing, history, and hope. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲—𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲'𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲—𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧.
