We are saddened to tell you that The History Center has closed our doors at South Square, due in part to a large increase in rent that we just couldn't handle. We are moving back to our Museum building at 126 W. 4th Street, which is between St. Ansgar Clinic and the Fire Station on 4th Street.
We are doing major updating and revamping to the inside and outside of the building, which will include adding a deck and handicap ramp in the back. There's lots of parking back there too! Watch for updates and exciting events to be held at the Museum and on the deck! A Grand Re-opening will be held in the Spring, so watch for that too.
A new FaceBook page has been set up for you to keep tabs on happenings at the Museum. Like and follow us at: St. Ansgar Heritage & History Center. Our new email is: [email protected].
So, we will keep you posted on our progress and hope you all will come see 'your' newly renovated Museum. Your support is always welcome and we thank you for that.
Any questions or thoughts, you can always reach out to any Board member: Karan Crilly 641-381-0397; Kathy Johnson 641-425-2559; Vonda Blakestad 641-210-5804; Jerry Rachut 641-736-4343; Julie Neeley 641-713-4593; Bill Perry 641-736-4618; Lynne Mouw 321-427-8164.
We were pleased to spend the last few years at South Square. They wished us well. We wish them the same.
If you would like to join our team, please get in touch. We will send or email you our info sheet.
See you soon, at the Museum!

We appreciate all your support in helping to preserve the history of St. Ansgar and the area.

Our annual Bake Sale and Soup Lunch was a huge success! We served really good soups and pies. Lots of take outs too. If you stayed to eat in and socialize, you got to enjoy the great piano music of Sam Crosser. He is the best! He played all the familiar Christmas Carols we grew up singing! We thank all those who brought baked goodies for our bake sale. Things went fast! We also give a shout out to Thrivent for their donation of a gift card for supplies too. This was our first year of being at the Methodist Fellowship Hall instead of the Legion, but everybody seemed to enjoy it. If you enjoyed the soups, remember you can get them and other delicious hot soups to go at The Food Center in St. Ansgar all through the winter. Check the daily specials at the meat counter.
The History Center room will be closed in January to change displays. Since it will be St. Ansgar's 170th birthday next year, we will reflect that with a walk down memory lane. Watch for our opening!

Thanksgiving will soon be here! The History Center will be open 9 to noon, Saturday, November 26 after Thanksgiving, during Shop Small and Holiday Market at South Square. Stop in!
And folks, it's time, once again, for our annual Soup Lunch and Bake Sale! Saturday, December 3, is the date. The location has changed to United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at 510 W. 4th Street, St. Ansgar. Bake Sale starts at 9 until gone. Delicious soups will be served from 11 to 1 or until gone. We have chicken pot pie soup with baking powder biscuits and beef stew soup with crackers. Choose from apple or pumpkin pie for dessert. See the flyer for more info and plan to come get a head start on your holiday baking goodies and have a nice hot bowl of soup!

Wow! What a night! The History Center's Ladies Night Out was a huge success! Everybody looked so nice dressed in Black and Bling. The entertainment was awesome, with great music by Carmen & Kostia and a very informative historical fashion presentation by Becky Grier of Kalona, Iowa. The food was good. The bar was busy. The raffles and door prizes were won by many excited guests. The gentlemen helping with the event looked very handsome in their black bow ties. The trunk used to deposit names for door prizes was once owned by an early St. Ansgar resident, Oscar Koch, and it was used to collect tickets in his Opera House here in 1912.
We would like to thank everyone who came to this fun event, to the gracious donors for their contributions for the raffle and door prizes, to the guys who helped with the raffles, to the table hostesses: Nancy Nickerson Lee for Cedar Summerstock theater, Diane Gasteiger, Vonda Blakestad, Candace Lloyd Clark, Ashley DeMaris, Cheryl Gruis, Janeal Dunn, Colleen Hollatz, Shiela Adams, Marcia Pleggenkuhl, Shop on State - Sandy Griffith & Carrie Mayer, Virginia Neeley, St. Ansgar State Bank - Michelle Halbach, Carol Power & Theresa, Lynne Mouw, Stephanie Benttine, Shannon Paulus, Melody Schrag, Karan Crilly, Connie Wagner. You all did a wonderful job of setting up beautiful tables. Thank you!
I'm including some photos from the night. We didn't get a chance to take too many so if you have any you would like to share, please send to our email at: [email protected].
Thanks again everybody!

Good morning! Looks like Fall is not far off. Do we say that about this time every year? We have a new event coming up in October, which will be a fun time for all who attend. We are hosting Ladies Night Out on Tuesday, October 25. There will be a delicious dinner, great entertainment and lots of fun raffles and a 50/50 drawing. Tickets are limited so get yours early. They are $25 and go on sale September 1 and end October 21. Available at Paradise Pizza, St. Ansgar State Bank, Farmers State Bank and South Square Coffee Shop.
The other fun thing is being a table hostess! That means coming up with a creative theme and decorating a table for 8.
Doors will open at 5pm for cocktails (cash bar), snacks, touring of tables and listening to the music of Carmen (Nickerson) and Kostia on the piano. Dinner is at 6pm, followed by a Victorian Fashion presentation by Becky Grier. Drawings and raffles will be on-going throughout the evening.
Any questions, send us an email or call a board member.
Hope to see y'all there!

We welcomed in the first day of Spring with a great party! Lots of St. Ansgar Heritage supporters showed up to see all the hands-on displays (and others) in our room. They enjoyed wine, coffee, snacks, sweets and awesome music by Lori Mayer on the piano and Betsy Neerhof and hubby, Tom, singing and playing guitar. The door prizes were won by Deb Freeman and Shirley Golberg.
The Board would like to thank all who stopped by and for the generous donations. Not sure what our next event will be yet. We're hoping to do another Tour of Beautiful Homes in the Fall. We'll keep you posted! Thanks, again, for a fun gathering!
