St. Albans House

St. Albans House Historic Hotel that is currently being restored by Green Dolphin LLC. Upon completion this beautifu The property historically known as St.

Albans House, located on the southeast corner of Lake and Federal streets in St. Albans, Vermont is comprised of a number of buildings erected over time. The most significant of these is the St. Albans House itself - a c. 1840 7 x 3 bay, four story, mansard-roof, brick hotel. A brick and frame structure built c. 1840 as a 2-story Greek Revival-style hotel; it was expanded to four stories in the la

te 1800s. By 1912, according to historic Sanborn Maps, the existing Mansard roof was in place. To the rear (south) are a two-story, gable-roof, brick ell and a number of attached outbuildings. The configurations, sizes and functions of these outbuildings have also changed over time. East of the brick ell is a 1 1/2 story side gabled, wood-clad building and a 1 1/2 story former ice house, joined to one another and to the main block via a series of three, single-story, flat-roof connector additions. Oral histories indicate that several of these buildings were moved to the site at various times, particularly in the mid 20th century, though conclusive evidence to support this has not been found.
