Thank you to Vermont Herpetofauna and Nature Center for hosting Reptile Day at Saint Albans Museum. We had 350 people come through! HNC provides a unique experience to interact with reptiles, amphibians, insects, and arachnids, and to learn more about wildlife conservation & care. Thanks to SAM’s own Corrina King for organizing this popular event. We were so pleased to see hundreds of smiling faces and to host a wonderful educational experience. 📸: Trish Denton (w/permission)

SAM is a volunteer-strong organization. Special shout out to longtime volunteer Charlotte Pedersen. In addition to tending to our Textiles Collections and mending our wares (figuratively & literally) - Charlotte is the quiet heartbeat of the organization through small acts of care towards our collections, building, and grounds. From watering the plants, to gardening, to keeping a sense of order in every nook and cranny (there are many!), we are are truly blessed to have such a solid contributor to the overall operations. A recipient of the 2025 History Starts Here Award for co-authoring "Images of America: Saint Albans" by Arcadia Publishing, Charlotte's dedication to preserving local history is a generous gift to SAM. We are proud to have such a strong player on the team. Thanks Charlotte! (link for book below in comments)

Thanks to everyone that turned out for the 2026 Saint Albans Museum Calcutta! What is a Calcutta, you ask? The term Calcutta is short form for “Calcutta Auction”, a type of betting pool that was first documented in the 19th c. at The Royal Calcutta Turf Club in India. Historically a Calcutta Auction was an event that happened in tandem with horse races, cricket, golf, backgammon, and other tournament events with multiple entrants. Inspiring by the side game of a BIG game idea, we designed our 2026 Calcutta to have a “game nite” theme. Games are fun, right? OH! What fun was had. Thank you to Tim Smith, Valdemar Garibay, and Alex Nalbach for being such engaging Masters of Ceremony. But mostly THANK YOU for playing! All proceeds from the tickets, balls, silent auction, raffle, and bar directly benefit the ongoing operations of Saint Albans Museum. Grand total raised to be announced soon!
