General Longstreet Museum/Lakeway Civil War Preservation Assoc.

The General Longstreet Museum is a centerpiece of the Tennessee Civil War Trails in East Tennessee. January and February by appointment only.

The museum is open April - December, Tues.-Sat. 10 am - 5 pm. Group and school tours are available year-round by special arrangement. This historic house was occupied by General James Longstreet and his troops during the winter of 1863-64. Period artifacts and displays help tell the story of the East Tennessee's part in the Civil War.

Join us on August 22nd at 3:00 p.m. for a special afternoon of history with guest speaker Michael Hardy.

Hardy is an award-winning historian and author of nearly thirty books, with decades of research into the Civil War and the history of Appalachia. His acclaimed works explore everything from the experiences of common soldiers and individual regiments to the battles, communities, and everyday realities of America’s Civil War.

We sincerely thank the Bradford-Rose S.C.V. Camp for tending to the headstones of Charles P. Nenney and Sarah Nenney.

They were the parents of Charles G. Nenney, who rented his house to General Longstreet and his staff in late December 1863.

It was great to welcome our good friend Dan Patterson, great-grandson of General James Longstreet, and his family back to the Longstreet Museum for another visit!

Dan has visited us a few times over the years, and it's always a pleasure to spend time together, catch up, and share the latest projects and exhibits at the museum. We truly value the friendship we've built with him and his family, and we're grateful for their continued interest in preserving General Longstreet's legacy and the history of East Tennessee.

Thank you, Dan, for making the trip once again. We always enjoy your visits and look forward to seeing you and your family again soon!

Step back in time with us at the General Longstreet Museum for our Living History Open House on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is a wonderful family-friendly event and a great opportunity for children to experience history in a hands-on, memorable way. Visitors can see original relics and antiques, watch campfire cooking and rifle demonstrations, and meet soldiers on site as they bring camp life and local history to life. Bring the kids, invite your friends, and spend the day with us in Russellville learning about the past in a fun and meaningful way. Admission is free during the Open House, and donations are greatly appreciated to help us keep history alive for future generations.

Long before they became household names, many musicians performed on small stages across the region. Famous Faces, Local Stages features photographs by Randy Ball capturing well-known artists early in their careers, preserving moments from their journey to fame.

Join us for an artist reception with Randy Ball on Saturday, June 6, from Noon to 2:00 PM at the Longstreet Museum. Hear the stories behind the photographs and explore this unique exhibition.
