This recently-restored structure is the sole standing example of nine courthouses built by the Cherokee Nation to handle its legal business and criminal cases in the 1880s. The structure functioned as a courthouse for just 14 years until it was closed in 1898, and the building went through a succession of private owners. In 1976, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places, and by the time CN regained ownership in the 1980s, the courthouse was falling into disrepair. In 2020, the structure’s restoration was completed, and the building now serves as a museum for the Cherokee Nation. What is this building and where can you find it in the Cherokee Nation?
