Major General Keith Lincoln Ware was one of the few draftees ever to achieve the rank of General Officer, and the only Medal of Honor recipient since World War I to fall in a subsequent conflict.

Following Officer Candidate School, Ware earned the Medal of Honor in World War II for extraordinary bravery near Sigolsheim, France, on December 26, 1944.

With his company pinned down by intense enemy fire, then-Lieutenant Colonel Ware advanced alone 150 yards beyond the front lines, drawing fire to reveal German positions. For two hours, he mapped enemy guns under relentless attack, then led a small assault force to destroy four machine gun nests, kill multiple riflemen, and force surrenders—despite being wounded and losing five of his 11 men. He refused medical aid until the objective was secured.

In Vietnam, he commanded the storied 1st Infantry Division, the Big Red One, always leading from the front. Tragically, on September 13, 1968, his UH-1 Huey helicopter was shot down near the Cambodian border by heavy machine gun fire, claiming the lives of Ware, his staff, crew, and even his faithful German Shepherd, "King."

He became the first U.S. Army General Officer killed in the Vietnam War—and the only Medal of Honor recipient since World War I to fall in a subsequent conflict.

What an amazing American hero!

We're honoring Army Sgt. Eduviges Guadalupe “Duvi” Wolf, a courageous and selfless soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to her country.

Inspired by the TV show “Cops,” Duvi dreamed of becoming a police officer, joining the Junior ROTC at Leuzinger High School and the Hawthorne Police Explorers program, where her dedication shone through—she tripled the program's size by recruiting friends and rose to the rank of lieutenant.

Too young to join the police force, Duvi enlisted in the Army, inspiring her older sister Ana to follow suit just three months later.

As an automated logistical specialist assigned to the 704th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado, she met and fell in love with fellow soldier Sgt. Josh Wolf, whom she married; together, they built a family with two young daughters, Valeri and Isabel, settling into a home in Colorado.

In the summer of 2009, both Duvi and her husband deployed to Afghanistan, leaving their daughters with grandparents in South Dakota.

Tragically, on October 25, 2009, at age 24, she was killed in action in Kunar province when insurgents attacked her vehicle with a rocket-propelled gr***de, also claiming the life of Pfc. Devin J. Michel.

Just a week earlier, Duvi had reenlisted for another three years, sharing with her family that her time in Afghanistan felt fulfilling, and she was eagerly anticipating a two-week leave in mid-November to reunite with her daughters—missing milestones like Valeri's first birthday and picking out Halloween costumes with Isabel.

God bless this special hero and look over her family forever. 🙏🏼❤️🇺🇲
