August 19 is National Aviation Day and we are sharing a photograph of Louise Jefferson, Janie Herndon, and Doris Larimore, circa 1950 (2022.45.1).

These three pioneering women were members of the Women’s National Aeronautics Association and helped form the Rogers Wing T Scouts (the first troop in the state) in 1949.

🎉Happy 175th birthday Coin Harvey!

On this day in 1851, William Hope “Coin” Harvey was born in Buffalo, Virginia. It was not until later in life that he moved to the Arkansas Ozarks to construct the resort town known as Monte Ne. He was a lawyer, author, politician, and businessman.

Although he ran for President in 1932 on the Liberty Party ticket, he is best remembered for the successful resort at Monte Ne and the concrete amphitheater that now lies under the waters of Beaver Lake. Learn more about Coin Harvey and Monte Ne in the “White River” exhibit.
