This is my 1st painting in over 7 years that I recently completed. It is a close up section of the old steam engine on rt. 122 in Franklin County VA. It's done in watercolor and I found out yesterday that it was accepted to be in the 2025 Virginia Watercolor Society show, in Radford Virginia, this September. After doing it I decided I would like to do the same image larger, in oils. I use my own photos as reference for my paintings, and have a couple more of the steam engine, that I think would make interesting paintings.

I know this a long shot, but I lost a photo album of my artwork and billboards I had painted over the years. I had loaned it to Ferrum College's art department over 20 years ago and the professor said they mailed it back to me not too long after that.I called all the post offices, but it was nowhere to be found. Like I said it's a long shot, but you never know. Please share, Thanks

Almost Every New Year, for the past several years, my resolution has been to do more art. So far, the years have come and gone without much of anything being produced. I heard a friend of mine say one time, about someone else, that you are not an artist if you are not making art. I have been trying to get my ducks in a row and get organized enough to start making art, and have made some progress in the last couple months in getting uncluttered and organized. I'm also trying to get in the right frame of mind to start painting, sculpting, doing pottery, and all the other artsy things that I like to do. I'm finally cleaning out 20 plus years of stuff I have brought home from other jobs, materials I have found, and leftover material from some of my own projects. I have shared photos of the back room of my gallery, before and during cleaning, but the gallery also has a basement, and upstairs that are equally packed,
plus the garage at our house. So.....I still have a lot left to do, but I have started! I just hope I can stay motivated enough to see it through. I am easily sidetracked "squirrel!" So hoping to get the gallery part wrapped up soon and be able to start using it and my workspace once again for making things and not for storage of whatever it is in there. This is more or less a letter to myself to help remind me that I am wasting time.

It was a bittersweet day for me. My first carousel horse carving was sold today to a couple that is giving it a new place to live. I carved it years ago but never really tried to sell it. Several weeks ago they contacted me to ask about buying it. Today it was loaded up on their trailer and carried to it's new home where it can be admired daily. Maybe time to carve something else!

Happy New Year! My plan for this year is to be more creative, more productive, and actually do some Art!

Just wanted to post some of the paintings that I have been working on for the Artist Tour coming up the weekend of October 20th. I will also have Carl Shad, a Boones Mill painter and carver, as a guest artist. These are 9x12 oil paintings on wood panels. Some photos might have a bit of a glare from the paints. The first is the Retreat Store on Callaway rd., then the Callaway Cannery at Callaway Elementary, Old Iron Furnace on Furnace Creek in Rocky Mount, The Burnt Chimney in Burnt Chimney, and a brick building still standing on a farm owned by David Matthews near Callaway. This building was used during the Civil War as a makeshift hospital to attend to wounded soilders. I plan on getting a little more info to accompany the painting. There are still more in the works.Look forward to seeing everyone! Thanks!!
