When people talk trash about their hometown, they aren’t just being negative.

They’re trying to create distance between how they see themselves and how they see the place they call home.

They don’t want to be associated with a blighted town. They don’t want to feel the shame of substandard surroundings.

Think about what it would feel like if you stopped maintaining your own home. Over the years it would stop being a source of pride and become a source of shame. Something you hid. Something you distanced yourself from.

Towns are no different.

When we stop tending to our surroundings, people naturally begin a strained relationship with those surroundings. We shouldn’t blame them for that. It makes complete sense.

The question is what we do about it.

A other step forward for RAHGS today. Ken took his truck, Rusty helped load and unload, & we took our primed plywood to the artist for the new mural. She was delightful and is a wonderful artist. She did the old mural that was on the Clappers building.

Hardly a week goes by without donations. Each one is accessioned, but its quite a job. Sometimes we get an unexpected joy, as in these old photos from 1917, of the Mognet family reunion, near Trent. They were a family of barn builders, and many of their barns are still standing and still used. James Mognet, the father/grandfather of this clan stands above the "7" in 1917. Thank you, Nancy! ❤

Patrick's Day puzzle, our "Drunken Lepricon" today! We threatened to ship the thing back to China so many times! Hardest puzzle ever! Ken Marker give moral support!
