🚨 Newsflash - nobody cares about your country’s history if you don’t. 🚨

This weekend, French communist rioters burned down the Limoges Town Hall. The 143 year old building, survived both World War I and World War II and the N**i occupation of France, but not this weekend. This is what happens when we teach people to hate their history. This is what happens when people do not respect who and what came before them. This is what happens when a nation does not protect its culture, history, and story. We must be the ones to protect it. We must be the ones to tell the truth. This is why AJE exists. This is why it matters.

Caesar Rodney’s ride was a historic 80-mile overnight journey on July 1–2, 1776, from Dover, Delaware, to Philadelphia, to break a tie vote among Delaware’s delegates and cast a deciding vote in favor of the Declaration of Independence. He did this while suffering from facial cancer.

No one had ever seen George Washington wear glasses. There is no painting of him in spectacles. He hated them.
But in March 1783, facing a room full of furious officers ready to march on Congress, he put them on.
“Gentlemen, permit me to put on my spectacles, for I have not only grown gray but almost blind in the service of my country.”
The men who survived Valley Forge started crying. They voted to stand with the republic.
When Washington died, Martha gave those glasses to Alexander Hamilton, who had been there. Who knew what they meant.

We did a lot this summer! In addition to traveling all over the country sharing the truth of American history, we also took the time to learn more ourselves! Our Archivist attended the Society of American Archivist conference in New Orleans. While there he was able to check out one of the best museums in the country, the National World War Two Museum!
