Lauri Kaihlanen Gallery

Lauri Kaihlanen Gallery The Lauri Kaihlanen Gallery is filled with bright and colorful art.

Lauri Kaihlanen has been painting for over 30 years and owns and operates a very popular art gallery in beautiful Rockport Massachusetts on the scenic Bearskin Neck. The Lauri Kaihlanen Gallery is filled with bright and colorful art including his popular whimsical wildlife, fine art and scenic vistas of the local landscape. Lauri's colorful and imaginative imagery includes fan favorites from his t

hree-headed dragons, kissing giraffes and elephants to frogs, turtles, raccoons and pelicans riding bicycles. With over 44 different characters the art of Lauri Kaihlanen is perfect as children's decor or nursery art and makes a wonderful keepsake. Beyond his collection of fantasy art, Lauri has captured Cape Ann life in his waterfront scenes, harbors, lighthouses, fish shanties, and the lighthouses of New England. Lauri's love of the ocean and it's creatures are captured in his whales, lobsters, sea turtles, manatees and lion fish. From quintessential New England imagery to fantasy and beyond, (like turtles riding bikes), Lauri Kaihlanen brings his love of color into your home with his art.

Our father is still at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, but he should be moving soon. We don’t yet know where he will be transferred, but he has improved quite a lot. He’s more aware of his condition, making phone calls, and showing real signs of progress. All of this is good news, and we are grateful for every step forward.

Our father remains at Lahey Hospital in Burlington. He is showing signs of improvement and has been taken off both the breathing tube and the feeding tube. He is still very confused and remembers very little, but he has been moved out of the ICU, and now we wait for the next steps in what we hope will be some level of recovery.

Even with these encouraging signs, we had to make an incredibly difficult decision last night. After 40 years on the Neck, we are closing the Kaihlanen Gallery. This was not an easy choice, but once the financial obligations required to keep the gallery open became clear, we realized we had no option but to close effective today.

Thank you for your understanding, your compassion, and for supporting what our father built for so many decades.

In support of our father and the legacy he has created in Rockport and Captiva, my sister looked through his house and the Kaihlanen Gallery and only found eight remaining original paintings.

We want everyone to know that we are not trying to make a profit from his work. Any purchase from this point forward will go directly toward covering the closing‑out bills if we have to shut down the gallery later this summer.

For now, we are asking $3,000–$5,000 for each of the remaining originals. If you are interested, please reach out before we update the gallery pricing to $5,500 per piece.

You can contact us at [email protected].

Thank you for your kindness, your support, and for loving his art the way he always hoped people would.

As many of you know, my father’s health has taken a very serious turn. He is currently facing MRSA pneumonia, internal bleeding, and a long list of complications. The breathing tube is being removed today, and while we are holding onto hope, we also have to face the reality that he may not be able to return to the Kaihlanen Gallery.

We are doing everything we can to honor what he built on the Neck. Our plan is to keep the gallery open through the end of the summer, with adjusted hours Wednesday through Sunday as we navigate these difficult days.

Unless he experiences an incredible turnaround, we expect that the Kaihlanen Gallery will need to close sometime in August. It’s heartbreaking to imagine the Neck without his presence and without the gallery he poured his life into.

Thank you for your kindness, your support, and your love for his work. It means more than you know.

I want to inform everyone who follows and supports my father’s gallery that he was admitted to the hospital on Father’s Day and diagnosed with meningitis. This morning around 5:00 a.m., his condition took a serious turn. He is now in a coma and on a ventilator in the CCU at Beverly Hospital.

He is being moved today to the Neurological ICU at Lahey in Burlington for further specialized care.

Please keep him in your thoughts. I will continue to share updates as we learn more.
