A Message from Coastal Children’s Museum
Over the past several months, we have heard from many of you asking about the future of Coastal Children’s Museum. We are so grateful for your patience, your support, and your continued enthusiasm for the museum during this time of transition.
As we shared last fall, we entered a period of reflection and planning with the goal of reimagining what Coastal Children’s Museum can be for our community. That work has been ongoing, and we are excited to begin sharing some important updates.
First, we want to let you know that we will not be returning to our former home on Mechanic Street. That space served us well for many years, and we treasure the memories created there with so many families. At the same time, it has become clear that the space no longer meets the needs of the museum or supports the vision we have for its future.
While this marks the end of one chapter, it also opens the door to new possibilities.
We are excited to share that Coastal Children’s Museum will be returning this summer as a mobile, pop-up museum! You can expect to find us at events throughout Knox County, bringing hands-on, playful learning experiences directly into the community. We look forward to popping up at places like Farmers’ Markets and other local gatherings. A full schedule will be announced in early June; check our website and pages for full details.
This mobile model allows us to stay connected with families while we take the time needed to find a new permanent home. Our goal is to secure a space that truly supports our mission and creates the best possible experience for the children and families we serve. We know that finding the right space will take time, and we are committed to doing it thoughtfully.
We also want to acknowledge those of you who purchased memberships prior to our closure. We appreciate your support and your patience, and hope that you were able to enjoy the Waterville Children’s Museum this winter, thanks to the generous support of First National Bank. We are also planning some special members-only events and activities at locations throughout the Midcoast this season as a way to thank our members for their support and patience during this transition. Additional details will be shared directly with members in the coming weeks.
Coastal Children’s Museum remains a small organization powered by a dedicated group of volunteers who care deeply about this work and this community. Your encouragement has meant so much to us as we navigate this transition.
