Dear SKFF Enthusiastic follower
t has been such a joy to watch the sailors grow—not just in their sailing skills, but in their confidence, independence, teamwork, and willingness to try something new. There were plenty of windy days, capsizes, knots that refused to cooperate, and moments when things didn’t go quite according to plan. And then there were those wonderful moments when a child suddenly figured something out, sailed independently, helped a teammate, or came back to the dock beaming with pride. Those are the moments that make this program so special.
Thank you for trusting us with your kids and for supporting them throughout the season. We hope they had as much fun as we did!

Women On the Water (WoW) Program Expands to the Classroom

Capt. Leigh Anne Mumford and her first mate Alicia Berry announce that the Women on the Water (WoW) sailing program at the Sail, Power, & Steam Museum’s (SPSM) Midcoast Sailing Center (MCSC) is expanding into the classroom.

The program for beginner women sailors is “From Classroom to Cockpit,’ and happens on consecutive Saturday mornings, beginning August 29, through Saturday, October 3, with class running from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Each class suggested donation is $20.

In class, you’ll answer the question, “what’s a jib?” or what’s meant when heard, “I’ve got the helm.” Learn the wind; know the boat; trim the sails; and stay afloat! You’ll learn to tack, gybe, steer and navigate. You’ll build your skills, feel first-rate and get sailing confidence.

Led by Captain Leigh A. Mumford, WoW’s “From Classroom to Cockpit” is a fun, welcoming classroom experience that builds sailing knowledge, confidence and the sailor’s vocabulary. It starts in class. Whether in your cockpit or our lovely rentals, we will train you until you can sail with confidence.

The $20 suggested donation per class helps support all the Women on the Water weekly sails through the Midcoast Sailing Center at 75 Mechanic St., Rockland, ME.
