Back with another From the Vault Friday!

In the early 20th century, Rock Island Arsenal’s skilled artisans carved the wood pattern molds for branch insignia for the US Army. These molds were used to make the final version of insignia in bronze, with the finished coloration being gold plated or black.

Below are US Army Medical Corps insignia. In the first photo from left to right: Wood pattern mold, bronze casting, finished insignia with a black coating/finish, and a gold plated insignia.

Today at the Rock Island Arsenal Museum we had the honor to host an exhibit dedication to World War Two Veteran Henry Langrehr. Henry Langrehr was a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division and dropped into France during the D-Day invasion. Mr. Langrehr was a dear friend to First Army and the Rock Island Arsenal.

The dedication was sponsored by First Army,
with First Army Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Mark Landes presenting. Langrehr's two daughters, Kay Schneider and Karen Winters, were present during the exhibit dedication to their late father.

We are back with another “Where in the World Wednesday?”

In 1909 the Infantry Equipment board gathered at Rock Island Arsenal, as they were tasked with designing, testing, and adopting a new set of equipment for the warfighter.

The research and development phase included a review of experimental and foreign equipment from around the world including this tin meat pan set pictured below.

What country do you think this meat pan set was produced and used by?
