A little networking, local history, and a touch of Halloween spirit! 🎃

October's Breakfast in the Bend was a wonderful morning of connecting with our business community while exploring some of Fort Bend's rich history!

A special thank you to this month's Host Sponsor, Fort Bend History Association, for welcoming us! Attendees had the opportunity to explore the museum and tour the beautiful Moore Home, all decked out for Halloween!

We're also grateful to our Presenting Sponsor, KRB Dentistry, for their continued support of Breakfast in the Bend and for helping us bring our business community together each month.

Historic Homes in Missouri City
History abounds in the older part of Missouri City clustered around Alt-90. At least three homes from 1901 or earlier still exist in that area though one of them wasn’t moved to its site until much later. One is the home built by the Dew family in about 1901 and lived in by Thomas Tristram Dew and his second wife Alice that is located on Adams St. and Texas Pkwy. Thomas’s son Dr. Hugh Dew built the Dew House now at Kitty Hollow Park that is the site of the DeWalt Heritage Center. Not far away is another old home, originally built for the Saylor family who returned to Missouri after a blizzard during the winter of 1898. It was then owned by a few different families before being purchased by J. Herbert Douglas in 1969 and eventually becoming the Heaven on Earth event venue. A third house is a relatively short distance away, on S. Garden St. just off of the Sam Houston Tollway. It was originally built in Richmond at 700 Jackson St. in the 1880s or 1890s for J. T. Dyer and his family but was later sold and moved to its present site in 1963. All 3 houses have changed a good bit since these photos were taken.

Has anyone seen my phone?!

Meanwhile, the phone: 👁️👄👁️

When you’ve walked into 5 different rooms, answered three questions, started four tasks, checked on an exhibit, talked to a visitor, and somehow set your phone down in a location that made PERFECT sense approximately 37 seconds ago. 😂

At this point, finding it is just another museum scavenger hunt. 🤣

The Haunted Moore Home Tours are coming back this October, and if Summerween taught us anything, it’s that these spots don’t stick around for long!

For the past few weeks, the Moore home has had a lot of maintenance work done, but we want to invite you to come experience the historic Moore Home after dark, hear the stories, explore the house, and enjoy a little spooky-season fun inside one of Fort Bend County’s historic homes. 🕯️🏚️
